How iFLUX guarantees quality of groundwater sensors

Testing is an important part of delivering quality.

We make our own sensors that measure groundwater flow velocity and direction. But even when we purchase sensors, we want to deliver optimal quality.

As a test, several sensors have been placed at the office buildings of the Science park of University of Antwerp.

We make our own sensors that measure groundwater flow velocity and direction.  But even when we purchase sensors, we want to deliver optimal quality. That is why we test every sensor before we actually use it in a project. 

During this test we check whether:

  • The sensor does what it is supposed to do; 
  • The measurements are carried out correctly;
  • The various functions of the sensor work; 
  • The measuring range corresponds to the specifications;
  • The data are stored or transmitted correctly.

We test this in our lab but also have the possibility to test in the field.

In the pond behind our office some time ago we installed a sensor that measures the distance to the water. This allows us to test the sensor in realistic conditions (e.g. temperatures, precipitation...) and follow up over a long period of time. 

In addition, it also helps us to find an efficient way to install it, and, apply it before we go on site, inform and train employees. There are also monitoring wells on the site in which we test sensors to monitor groundwater levels and quality (e.g. salinity). Besides these tests, we regularly go into the field to test local conditions with our own sensors and to decide which sensors to purchase or to prepare the installation ourselves. 


That way, we ensure that we can deploy the most appropriate sensors and everything runs smoothly once we go into the field for our customers.
